What are the Best Chokes For Sporting Clays?
This is very subjective. The best chokes for sporting clays are the chokes that let you hit the most targets. I personally use full and full choke, but I don’t think everybody should do that, certainly not when they’re new to the sport.
When you’re starting out, a more open choke such as Skeet gives you a better chance of hitting a target and enjoying the thrill of shooting. As you improve, you can go to tighter choke constrictions that allow you to break targets at longer ranges.
I use fixed chokes because it eliminates a decision from my planning process, and I am confident of my ability to hit any target with them, even those at close range. But many other shooters like the ability to analyze the target and choose the most appropriate choke. For example, most shooters would feel more comfortable shooting a close rabbit with a Skeet or even Cylinder choke, but would want to change it for other targets with more distance.
Either way, I suggest that you change chokes as little as possible and spend more time analyzing the targets and making a plan to crush them. If you can center the target in your pattern, then choke is nearly irrelevant.
